The 2D materials are generally substances which are very thin like few nanometres. In this case, the electrons move within the 2D place freely. These 2D materials do have variety of compositions, electronic structures and properties. There are numerous 2D materials which can be found.

There are many activities which are done by these 2D materials. The functioning region of these elements is vast and the list includes materials like cludegraphene, phosphorene etc. in this article we will take a list of 2D materials that are used in research. These 2D materials change the chemical and physical properties of the components and bring change in the composition.

List of 2D materials with characteristics used for research

  • Graphene: it is a crystalline allotrope of carbon and is nearly hundred times stronger than many steels in weight. It is a great conductor of electricity and was first produced in 2004.
  • Graphyne: it is another 2D allotrope carbon with a similar structure of graphene. Depending on the content of the acytelene groups, graphyne can be considered as the mixed hybridization.
  • Borophene: it is a crystalline atomic monolayer of boron and is also known as boron sheet.
  • Germanene: it is a 2D allotrope of Germanium. It exhibits a honeycomb structure and it consists of two hexagonal sub lattices.
  • Silicenen: a 2D allotrope of silicon with a hexagonal honeycomb structure.

Activities after 2D materials used for research

Above are given some of the 2D materials used for research. These 2D materials are used in making topological insulators. They are also used in magnetic sensing. It is used in black phosphorous and also strain engineering.

Weyl metal also sees the use of these materials. So we can see that the 2D materials used for research are very important in finding something new chemically and also in other sense.
